Chechen associations strongly condemned punitive operations in Dijon
Chechen associations strongly condemned the punitive operations launched by members of the community against youth in the French city of Dijon, Le Figaro reports. We strongly condemn the initiative put forward almost ten days ago by members of the Chechen community against youth in the sensitive area of Dijon, Zelimkhan Shavkhalov, a member of the Chechen ATI association, said at a press conference. We are in France, we must respect French laws, added Zelimkhan Shavkhalov, a lawyer for this association. We want to send a message of peace and respect to all communities, also stated in the Vivre association. Shamil Albakov, a representative of the Chechen Association of Europe, which unites about thirty associations on the continent, deplored stereotypes about Chechen society. We are outraged by the attribution of a negative image to the entire Chechen community, in which about 60,000 people live in France, including 15,000 in Alsace, said Shamil Saiev from the ATI association. According to the news agency, in France nine people were detained for possession of weapons and drugs during a new police operation, which took place in Dijon on June 22, 2020.
