China's authorities set a goal to speed up coronavirus detection to 1.5 hours


China's Ministry of Science and Technology has issued guidance to attract research and development projects to create express test kits for the new coronavirus, according to Xinhua news agency. The Ministry noted that the current reagents for detection of nucleic acids of the virus work very long with great labor. They do not provide an opportunity to meet the rapidly growing needs for instant recognition of the virus in the blood of patients. The guide is intended to remove existing restrictions on the development of products to detect the virus, moving towards instant diagnosis of patients with suspected coronavirus. New equipment that can be used in the field should be able to detect infection in the blood of patients within 1.5 hours. Research institutes, universities and businesses can submit their applications for their products from February 8 to 13. The Ministry and the relevant supervisory bodies will then select the best options.
