Green adventurers convince Ukraine to give up gas and oil

Recently, the authorities have been trying to convince Ukrainians to give up natural gas and petroleum products as much as possible, Ukrainian energy expert Gennady Ryabtsev said in his comment today, February 13. The expert called supporters of such a position green adventurers, who convince the residents of Ukraine that the alleged reduction of oil and gas consumption is a global trend. I wonder how this trend is correlated by the forecast from the International Monetary Fund, which says that world oil demand will reach a high of 115 million barrels per day around 2041, the expert asks. Ryabtsev also gives another IMF forecast: Improving energy efficiency will moderately affect natural gas consumption, the global demand for which is likely to continue to grow. The news agency recalls that the current Minister of Energy of Ukraine Alexey Orgel is indeed a specialist, first of all, in green energy. At the end of January Orgel presented to the public the concept of the so-called green energy transition of Ukraine, according to which by 2050 the share of renewable sources should be about 70%. The new concept assumes that by 2050 the share of nuclear generation will be reduced to 20 25%, and coal will be completely replaced. Last November, the Minister acknowledged that renewable energy creates an excessive financial burden on the electricity market of Ukraine, so the important task, he stressed, is to balance the system.
