The expert explained how Kiev will protect itself from regional anarchist covids

The conflict between Lutsk and Ternopol and the central government over quarantine restrictions is a reflection of a real and very complex contradiction that not only Ukraine faces, Ukrainian political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko said on August 4, commenting on recent events in the country. The expert said that there is a clear contradiction between the interests of epidemiological security (which in this case is protected by the central government) and the group economic, social and political interests that the city government protects. In Ukraine, the situation is aggravated by local elections to be held in October. Yes, mayors and deputies of city councils at the end of October go to the polls, and they do not want to look like bad bosses who impose quarantine restrictions. But if the city authorities do not comply with state laws and rules, then we will not have a single country very quickly, Fesenko said. The political scientist suggested that the way out of the current conflict could be a large meeting with the participation of the government, heads of the Ministry of Health, governors, mayors of regional centers to develop a general algorithm for action. The decision of the government commission on zonal quarantine restrictions can be considered as a recommendation. But then the local authorities should take full responsibility for the epidemiological state in their cities and regions. Both mayors and deputies of the cities of the red zone who do not want to introduce security measures should prepare for lawsuits from the families of the deceased for criminal inactivity, and the central government will then have every right to block entry-exit to the cities and regions of the red zone. This will be a way to protect the country from regional anarchist covids, the expert summed up. the news agency recalls that earlier the city authorities of Ternopol and Lutsk refused to comply with the decision of the Government of Ukraine on strict quarantine restrictions due to the fact that, according to the Cabinet, these regional centers were in the red zone in the situation with coronavirus. Moreover, deputies of the city council of Ternopol demanded the resignation of the current government of Ukraine.
